Mitigation

The challenge of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, in accordance with the Paris Agreement, requires a profound transformation of energy, industry, and mobility systems worldwide.

In this context, the International Climate Initiative (IKI) supports mitigation projects aimed at advancing the transition to climate neutrality by 2050, in alignment with the agreement. This approach seeks to promote a structural transformation of economies by reducing greenhouse gas emissions while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.

IKI’s mitigation strategy is structured around four priority areas:

  • Raising climate ambition: supporting the implementation and strengthening of NDCs and long-term strategies;
  • Energy transition: expansion of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and system integration;
  • Industrial decarbonization: development of policies, market-based instruments, and technological innovation;
  • Mobility transition: promotion of low-carbon transport and sustainable solutions.

In addition, IKI operates through cross-cutting actions, including:

  • mobilization of private investment,
  • strengthening of public policies and institutional capacities,
  • development of monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems,
  • and integration between climate, biodiversity, and sustainable development.
