Adaptation
The impacts of climate change are already unavoidable, making adaptation a global priority—especially for the most vulnerable countries and populations. The Paris Agreement reinforces this commitment through the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), which calls for increased international support to developing countries.
In this context, the International Climate Initiative (IKI) works to strengthen the resilience of partner countries by supporting their capacity to adapt to extreme weather events and changing climate conditions.
IKI’s adaptation strategy is structured around three priority areas:
- Adaptation planning: supporting the development and implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), integrating climate risks into public policies;
- Ecosystem-based adaptation: promoting solutions that combine biodiversity conservation with responses to climate impacts;
- Resilience and security: developing strategies to address losses, damages, and risks associated with extreme events.
In addition, IKI promotes an integrated approach, linking adaptation with mitigation and biodiversity, and strengthening coherence among instruments such as NDCs, NAPs, and national strategies.
The initiative also contributes to international climate finance, being one of the main supporters of the Adaptation Fund, which finances projects focused on adaptation in developing countries.
