The industry is responsible for 33% of final energy consumption in Brazil and about 8% of national greenhouse gas emissions. However, the energy efficiency (EE) market in the industrial sector is still underdeveloped, due to barriers faced by end consumers, limited capacities in the supply chain of EE solutions, and the restricted attractiveness of existing financing mechanisms.
The PotencializEE project promotes investments in energy efficiency through the identification and development of projects, support for the implementation of real investments with financing by public credit lines from the development agency Desenvolve SP, complemented by partial guarantees from the Mitigation Action Facility, in addition to the structuring of portfolios of EE projects aimed at subsequent refinancing via the private sector.
The focus of the project is on small and medium-sized industrial enterprises (SMEs) in the state of São Paulo, especially in thermal efficiency measures, in strengthening the supply chain of EE solutions and in the engagement of the financial sector. PotencializEE aims to mobilize investments of around 80 million euros in energy efficiency, which represents a potential savings of approximately 7,267 GWh and an estimated reduction of 1.1 million tons of CO₂ equivalent.
