Indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs) play a vital role in preserving biodiversity at local, national, and global scales. The ICCA Global Initiative 30×30 (phase 2) supports the implementation of GBF Goals 3 and 22 in 40–50 countries.
- Goal 3 provides for the protection of at least 30% of terrestrial and marine areas by 2030.
- Goal 22 addresses the fair, inclusive, and effective participation of IPLCs in conservation and biodiversity decisions.
The initiative funds small grants for civil society organizations, indigenous peoples, and local communities, promotes the exchange of good practices, and articulates partners through networks and learning mechanisms. The project also disseminates knowledge and strengthens institutional frameworks to expand the recognition and legal protection of ICCAs worldwide.
