The Challenge

Brazil has favorable conditions to establish itself as a global leader in large-scale Forest and Landscape Restoration (FLR), thanks to its strong institutional framework and multi-stakeholder restoration networks. Despite these advances, challenges remain regarding compliance with environmental legislation, coordination among different initiatives and stakeholders, and the mobilization and allocation of financial and technical resources toward actions with the greatest potential for impact and scalability.

The Solution

The project’s strategy is to strengthen the conditions needed to scale up restoration efforts across these landscapes by promoting collaboration among diverse stakeholders, strengthening existing multi-institutional networks, connecting field actions to public policies, supporting investment mobilization and the development of restoration-related businesses, and improving monitoring systems to inform decision-making and ensure the effectiveness of restoration interventions.

Key Results

The project is currently in its first six months of implementation. During this period, activities have focused on engaging strategic partners, defining priorities for the target landscapes, and developing work plans that will guide restoration, monitoring, and resource mobilization efforts over the coming years.

Why Does This Matter for Brazil?

The restoration of degraded areas in the Serra da Mantiqueira and the Paraíba Valley directly contributes to the conservation of water resources that supply major urban centers, the expansion of sustainable food production, the recovery of ecosystem services, and the protection of Atlantic Forest biodiversity.
