The Just Transition Compass is a practical guide that brings together evidence and experiences from different countries to help turn climate goals into concrete and fair actions. The document explains what a “just transition” means—addressing climate change without leaving anyone behind—and highlights the main challenges in putting it into practice.

It also provides recommendations on how governments, international organizations, and other actors can work in a coordinated way, aligning policies, financing, and real-world actions. The publication underscores the importance of international cooperation to reduce inequalities and ensure that the benefits of the transition to a low-carbon economy are shared more equitably.

The Compass was developed by Climate Strategies and LACLIMA, in cooperation with the COP30 Presidency and in collaboration with Brazil’s Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. The work was funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH through the Climate Diplomacy Action Programme (CDAP) and the Policies on Climate Change Programme (PoMuC II).
